Close Fellowship

No longer will each man teach his neighbor or his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ because they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquities and will remember their sins no more. — Jer 31:34 BSB

Whatever else we may not know, we do know the Lord. Today, this promise is true in our experience, and it is no small thing. Even the least believer among us knows God in Christ Jesus. Not as fully as we desire, but truly and genuinely, we know the Lord. We don’t just know doctrines about Him; we know Him personally. He is our Father and our Friend. We have a close relationship with Him. We can say, “My Lord, and my God.” We spend many happy moments in His holy company, no longer strangers to our God, for His secrets are with us.

This knowledge goes beyond anything nature could teach us. Flesh and blood did not reveal God to us. Christ Jesus made the Father known to our hearts. If the Lord has made Himself known to us, this is the fountain of all saving knowledge. To know God is eternal life. As soon as we become acquainted with God, we have the evidence of being quickened into new life. O my soul, rejoice in this knowledge and bless your God all day long!
