so that, ‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven.’ — Mark 4:12 BSB
It’s a mistake not to use our eyes to see the things around us. Eventually, this leads to losing the ability to see. Refusing to listen to God’s gentle words of love causes us to lose the ability to hear, so that in a universe filled with love, we hear only terror. Refusing to understand the things of God dulls the soul, until we can no longer comprehend, even if we wanted to.
We should keep the gates of our soul open toward heaven. We should train our eyes to see whatever God would show us, so we can grow more and more capable of seeing beauty in God and His works. We should listen carefully for every word God speaks to us and seek to understand what He teaches. For those who truly seek, even the deepest mysteries will eventually become clear.
