I am torn between the two. I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better indeed. But it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. — Phil 1:23-24 BSB
If we live as citizens of heaven while on earth, two desires often tug at our hearts. The heavenly life calls us with its promises of bliss, the joy of being with Christ, and the end of all tears and sin. At the same time, earth still holds a strong grip on us. It’s natural to want to live—any other desire, under normal circumstances, is unhealthy. Our human relationships create strong ties that bind us to this life. So, we are often torn between these two desires—yearning for heaven, but also feeling the pull of life on earth.
