And you are to clothe Aaron with the holy garments, anoint him, and consecrate him, so that he may serve Me as a priest. — Exod 40:13 BSB

One feature of the high priest’s garment was very meaningful. On each shoulder, in the golden clasp that fastened the two parts of the ephod, was an onyx stone engraved with the names of six of the tribes of Israel. Symbolically, the high priest carried the people on his shoulders, the place of strength. He was a picture of Christ, who carries His people on His shoulders, bearing their burdens.

Another feature of the high priest’s garment was the breastplate, which contained twelve precious stones with the names of the twelve tribes engraved on them. The high priest wore this over his heart. When he entered the presence of God, he carried the people with him—not only on his shoulders, for support, but near his heart, symbolizing love.

In the same way, Christ carries His people in His heart with deep, tender, and unchanging love. So we can be confident that both Christ’s strength and His love are always at work for us!
