To you who believe, then, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,” — 1 Pet 2:7 BSB

The closest friends of Christ have found no greater influence in their lives than His friendship, which forms and transforms them. His pure and spotless life, His strength and heroism, His gentleness and beauty continually shine before them, offering a pattern from heaven that lifts them up. No one who has had Christ as a true friend has failed to be blessed by Him, growing into a nobler, richer life.

Human friendships can do much for us. You may recall how, during a time of grief, a friend’s sweet sympathy, quiet peace, and strong comfort helped you through the valley of sorrow. But tell me, rather, what Christ did for you in your time of trouble. When the shadows hung over your home, when your heart was bowed in grief, when the life dearest to you hung in the balance, or when death came and your heart was broken—what was Christ to you then? Did He not prove Himself precious to you in those dark moments? It is in the experiences of trial that we discover the best of Christ’s grace and love.
