Blessed be the LORD, who has given rest to His people Israel according to all that He promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises He made through His servant Moses. — 1 Kgs 8:56 BSB
It’s been nearly three thousand years since Solomon made his testimony, yet we can still say, as confidently as Solomon did back then, that in all the years since, not one word of God’s promises has ever failed for any of His people. No one has ever trusted a promise of God and found that it was not fulfilled.
The most real and reliable things in this world are the words of God. In each one of His words, we find the strength of God’s own hand. We hold onto His promises and find that God Himself is holding onto us. We lean on His words and find that we are supported by His everlasting arms. We rest our weary or sorrowful heads on His words of love and comfort and find ourselves being held close to our Father’s heart, soothed by His gentleness, which is even more tender than a mother’s.
Throughout our lives, in every experience, we can trust God’s promises and entrust all our concerns to Him, knowing that not a single word of His will ever fail. We can trust Him even in death, and we will find everything just as He has said: God’s presence with us in the valley, death as simply a homecoming, and to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, in eternal joy. Not one word of God can fail.
