While it is daytime, we must do the works of Him who sent Me. Night is coming, when no one can work. — John 9:4 BSB
We are all sent into this world by God with a purpose, given a specific part to play in blessing others. To fulfill this purpose, we are given just a day’s worth of time. A day is short and fixed, and when the sun sets, nothing can delay it for even a minute.
Yet, a day is long enough for God’s plan. The sun never sets too soon for His purposes. Every life, no matter how brief, is long enough for the work assigned to it. This is true even of a newborn who lives only an hour, bringing a blessing to the world in that short time before returning to heaven. It’s true of children, of young people, and even of those who die in their prime with work still unfinished. No one can say that the time they were given wasn’t enough—it’s always enough, as long as every moment is filled with simple faithfulness.
To finish our work, we must do it while the day lasts, because there won’t be a chance to complete it later. If we are truly living with purpose, we’ll always feel the urgency of knowing that time is short. We can’t afford to waste a single moment, for soon it will be night, and we won’t be able to work anymore.
