Humility is an excellent grace. It’s the empty hand that God fills. Self-conceit is weakness. We are strongest when we distrust ourselves and rely on God. Emptiness is the cup that God fills with blessing. Pride leaves no room for divine strength. But there is also a danger in self-distrust. Sometimes it causes people to shrink from their duties. It nearly derailed Moses’ mission. A little more hesitation, and God might have left him in the wilderness with his sheep, choosing someone else to lead Israel out of Egypt. No doubt many people have missed the mission they were meant for, simply because they doubted their ability. When God calls us to a task, we should never question whether we’re able. If He calls us, He will equip us.
