April 14

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast and immovable. Always excel in the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. — 1 Cor 15:58 BSB

Jesus no longer walks among men doing deeds of love, but He sends His followers to continue His work. We are called to abound in love and ministry just as He did. It’s not enough to be good, gentle, sweet, amiable, and kind. While such a life is beautiful and has a far-reaching influence, like the fragrance of Mary’s perfume, we must also be full of good works. We are called to win souls, comfort the sorrowful, feed the hungry, relieve distress, encourage the disheartened, free captives from sin, stand up for truth, and fight for what is right. We begin to resemble Christ when we begin to be useful in these ways.

It should inspire us to know that our labor for Christ is never in vain. No word of truth spoken is ever lost. Just as the impressions of ancient leaves can still be seen on rocks today, so every word we speak for God and every small deed done in love leaves an eternal mark.
