So let us know—let us press on to know the LORD. As surely as the sun rises, He will appear; He will come to us like the rain, like the spring showers that water the earth. — Hos 6:3 BSB
This passage speaks directly to the living soul walking in darkness, unable to find God. The text says, “His going forth is prepared as the morning.” Just as the sun rises at its appointed time, so does the Lord reveal His presence. The sun doesn’t rise a moment early or late, and no human action can hasten or delay it. In the same way, the Lord’s coming to save and reveal Himself to His people is perfectly timed, just as the sun’s rising is set every day.
Before the sun rises, there is darkness. We cannot command the sun to rise, but we wait for it. The Psalmist says, “My soul waits for the Lord, more than those who watch for the morning.” Just as the sick person waits for morning to bring relief, the shipwrecked mariner hopes for the morning light to bring safety, and the traveler waits for dawn to find his way, so must we wait for the Lord’s coming at the appointed time.
The Sun of Righteousness, Christ, reveals Himself in the heart just as surely as the morning comes. His appearance is fixed and unchangeable, just as the sun rises on schedule. We cannot hasten His coming or keep Him in our hearts longer than He wills. But when He does come, He comes “conquering and to conquer,” defeating our enemies, overcoming temptations, and bringing healing and victory, just like the sun rising in full strength.
