Enoch walked with God, and then he was no more, because God had taken him away. — Gen 5:24 BSB
The main way we walk with God is by faith, not by sight. Abraham walked in this way. Unbelief separates the soul from God; there’s no communion between God and an unbeliever. A heart of unbelief has no fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ, but a believing heart does. By faith, we have fellowship with God and His Son, and you’ll notice that the strength or weakness of your faith directly affects your walk with God. When your faith is active, when you look to the atoning blood of Christ, you find that you can walk closely with God. You can pour out your heart to Him, share all your concerns, and spread before Him the deepest thoughts of your mind, looking to Him for peace and comfort.
But when your faith is weak, when it falters under trial and can’t grasp the promises of God, then your communion with Him is interrupted, and you lose that sense of walking with God. However, as faith strengthens, so does your walk with God, and there’s sweet harmony, for faith focuses not on the sin, but on the salvation from sin—the way sin is pardoned, overcome, and subdued. So, it’s by faith, and in proportion to the strength of our faith, that we walk together with God.
