And my God will supply all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. — Phil 4:19 BSB
Oh! If there were no Christ Jesus, there would be no “supply.” Our miserable souls would be left howling in hell if there were no Mediator at the right hand of the Father—a blessed Jesus, full of love, pity, and power, co-equal and co-eternal in His divine nature with the Father and the Holy Spirit. He is the God-Man, in whom “it has pleased the Father that all fullness should dwell.”
Without such a blessed Mediator, not one drop of spiritual comfort, not one bit of hope, nor one grace or fruit of the Spirit would ever be ours. We would be no different from the damned in hell. How vital it is that we remember the channel through which all these mercies flow—they come through no other Person and in no other way than through God’s only begotten Son, who now stands at the right hand of the Father as our Advocate, Mediator, and Intercessor.
This supply is given “according to the riches of His glory.” This phrase, I believe, is a Hebrew idiom, signifying His glorious riches—riches so vast, so unlimited, and so deep that they lift the soul to such heights of glory that they may truly be called “glorious.” And these riches are “in Christ Jesus,” stored up in Him, locked up in Him, and freely supplied from Him, according to the needs and trials of God’s people.
