But you, beloved, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, — Jude 1:20 BSB

The term “most holy faith” refers primarily to the great truths of the everlasting gospel that are revealed to and embraced by faith. They are called “our most holy faith” because they are filled with all the holiness of God. And when these truths are received into believing hearts, they bring sanctification, having a freeing and purifying power. The phrase “build up” assumes that a foundation has already been laid. Christ is that foundation, the one God has laid in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone. Where Christ has been revealed to the soul by divine power, a foundation is established in the heart upon which every truth is built.

The most important question for us is whether Christ has been laid as the foundation in our souls. If he has, we will have been driven away from every other foundation, finding rest and peace only in him. If Christ has ever been revealed to our souls by the mighty power of God, then we have seen and felt that he is the foundation on which we can stand—for eternity. As the Son of the Father, in truth and love, he came to complete the work the Father gave him. He put away sin by his sacrifice and brought in everlasting righteousness, in which we can stand justified. This foundation is one upon which a guilty soul may rest. When this foundation is brought near, and by God’s grace, we are lifted up to rest upon it, we can confidently say, “How firm a foundation, you saints of the Lord, is laid for your faith in his excellent word.”

“Other foundation can no man lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 3:11).
