Today’s Quote

Love is the golden chain that binds the believing heart to Christ.

— Thomas Brooks

Spurgeon’s Daily Help

Even though we may have produced some fruit for Christ and are joyfully hopeful that we are “plants of his own right-hand planting,” there are still times when we feel very barren. Our prayers may feel lifeless, our love cold, our faith weak, and every grace in the garden of our heart seems to wither

and droop. We are like flowers in the hot sun, needing a refreshing shower. What should we do in such times? “Sing, O barren one, burst into song and shout for joy.” Sing, believer, for it will lift your own heart and the hearts of others who are feeling desolate. Keep singing, for now that God has stirred in you a desire for fruitfulness, he will soon cover you with blessings.

The Spurgeon Birthday Book

November 5

Love is the essence of true faithfulness, the lifeblood of devotion, the sinew of spiritual strength—in fact, the very life of sincere worship. Someone who truly loves can no more be idle than a leaf in the wind, a wave in the sea, or a flame in the fire.

Hearts can no more stop beating than love can stop working. Love is full of energy, never content with doing little; it’s the source of heroism, and great deeds flow naturally from it.
