Today’s Quote
Whatever we have over-loved, idolized, and leaned upon, God has from time to time broken it, and made us to see the vanity of it. So that we find the readiest course to be rid of our comforts is to set our hearts inordinately upon them!
— John Flavel
Spurgeon’s Daily Help
It’s far too common to forget about the Holy Spirit. This is both foolish and ungrateful. He deserves our full attention because He is supremely good. As God, He is inherently good. He shares in the threefold declaration of “Holy, holy, holy” that rises to the Triune God. He is pure, truthful, and full
of grace. He is good in His benevolence, patiently bearing with our stubbornness, guiding us when we resist, reviving us from our spiritual death, and then nurturing us for Heaven as a loving nurse cares for her child. How generous, forgiving, and tender is this patient Spirit of God.

There are many paths that aren’t good. On a dry day, as we crossed a road, a boy ran ahead with his broom, pretending to sweep the path, but really, he just stirred up a cloud of dust around us. This reminds us of the men with new ideas who offer to clear
the way for us, but all they do is create a blinding cloud of doubt and confusion. We prefer the straightforward path to Heaven over the philosopher’s downward road, no matter how much they try to sweep it clean.
