Some time later, David inquired of the LORD, “Should I go up to one of the towns of Judah?” “Go up,” the LORD answered. Then David asked, “Where should I go?” “To Hebron,” replied the LORD. — 2 Sam 2:1 BSB
David had been waiting for years to become king.
He knew that God had planned for him to succeed Saul. Now that Saul was dead, David knew the kingdom was his. Still, he showed remarkable patience, refusing to act until he had sought God’s guidance.
We, too, should always wait for God, never rushing His timing. We shouldn’t embark on any course of action until we’ve asked for His direction. Scripture teaches us to acknowledge the Lord in all our ways, promising that He will then direct our paths.
We should walk through life with a spirit of reverence, always praying, “Show me Your way.” Even in the smallest matters, we should seek God’s will. One of the psalms offers a beautiful prayer: “Teach me the way I should walk.”
“Let every day
Be shaped by Your hand;
My will be Yours,
No matter how deeply
I have to bow to keep Your hand.”
