Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” — Matt 16:16 BSB
Under the power of the Holy Spirit, Peter caught a glimpse of Jesus in His glorious beauty. He saw Jesus as the Messiah, the long-promised One. Finally, the Promised One had arrived, and Peter recognized and believed in Him as the Christ. Not only that, but Peter also saw Jesus as divine—the Son of the living God.
This confession shows us how we should view Christ. He is the Messiah, God’s Anointed One, who came down to live among us as a man. At the same time, He is the Son of God, possessing divine power, infinite love, and grace, able to meet all our needs and lift us to eternal life.
If our belief is like Peter’s, and if we let Christ be all to us that He is in our creed, then we are standing on solid ground. But we must ensure that Christ is not just a part of our creed but is also truly present in our lives.
