Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to reckless indiscretion. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. — Eph 5:18 BSB
Some of the effects of being filled with the Spirit include:
- Holiness of heart and life – This does not mean the perfection of our human nature but the holiness of the divine nature living within us.
- Fullness of joy – Our hearts remain radiant, regardless of circumstances, filling us with holy laughter even in the midst of trials.
- Fullness of wisdom, light, and knowledge – This causes us to see things as God sees them.
- A quickened and elevated mind – We gain the fulfillment of the promise, "We have the mind of Christ."
- A quickening of the physical body – Our bodies were made for the Holy Spirit just as much as our minds and souls.
- The ability to pray in the Spirit – If He lives in us, our prayers will align with God’s work in the world. There is a divine harmony between the Spirit and Providence.
