Spurgeon's Prayer: Praying for Our Nation and the World

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His inheritance!
— Psalm 33:12 (BSB)

I believe that one of the greatest enemies of the gospel is modern culture when it displaces the authority of God’s Word.
— Charles Spurgeon

Lord, we come before You tonight with heavy hearts, lifting up our nation and the world to You. We see so much distress, confusion, and pain around us, and we ask for Your mercy. Please, by Your grace, relieve the widespread suffering. Many are crying out for help, for work, for food. Lord, we know that You are the provider of all good things, and we ask that You meet their needs.

Father, we pray for an end to wars and conflicts across the world. You are the Prince of Peace, and we ask that You bring peace to nations torn apart by violence and hatred. Where wars must come, let them serve to break the chains of oppression and lead to freedom for the oppressed. Even in the midst of these trials, we trust that You are working all things for good.

We also ask for Your mercy upon our own land. In this time of great need, we pray that You would guide our leaders with wisdom and justice. May they seek Your counsel in all they do. Lord, we long for the day when righteousness will reign and peace will fill our streets.

As we rest tonight, we commit our nation and the world into Your hands. We trust in Your sovereign power to bring relief, peace, and justice. Help us to be agents of Your love in a world that so desperately needs it.
