Surely You desire truth in the inmost being; You teach me wisdom in the inmost place. — Ps 51:6 BSB

Being is more important than doing, if the two could be separated. The value of a deed depends largely on who does it. The power of a word depends on the character of the speaker. We must be good before we can do good.

However, simply being good isn’t enough; there must also be a desire to do good. We aren’t meant to live for ourselves alone, not even in the pursuit of goodness. We should seek to be blessed so that we can bless others. Every good gift we receive from God is a trust that we are meant to use for Him. If our hearts are right, then our work—whether great or small—will be a blessing to the world.
