When He is at work in the north, I cannot behold Him; when He turns to the south, I cannot see Him. Yet He knows the way I have taken; when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold. — Job 23:9-10 BSB
God is invisible, and we cannot see Him. We know that He is at work in the world around us, and we turn quickly to find Him, but our eyes catch no glimpse of Him. We cannot touch Him, and we cannot see His face. Yet we know that while we cannot see Him, He sees us always. He knows the way we take—where we are, what we are doing, and what we are experiencing. “He knows!”
One evening, Jesus sent His disciples out in a boat to cross the sea, but He did not go with them. A great storm arose during the night, and the disciples were alone, battling the wind and waves. They could not find Jesus, and they were in great distress. But even though they couldn’t see Him, Jesus was watching them from the mountain. He knew the way they were taking in the darkness and storm.
In our own lives, we may have times when we cannot seem to find God. We may cry out to Him and not get an answer, or we may search for Him but not feel His presence. In these moments, it is a great comfort to know that even when we cannot see Him, He sees us. He knows the way we take, and we are never out of His sight. Always, “He knows!” And that is enough.
