You may think you can, but you cannot control sin once it starts. Committing one sin is like the melting of the lower glacier on the Alps; eventually, the others must follow. Just as surely as you add one stone to a cairn today, you’ll add another tomorrow until the pile, built stone by stone, becomes

a pyramid. Once you set the coral polyps to work, you can’t decide where it will stop building; it won’t stop until it’s built its reef and created an island. Sin can’t be restrained by any means.

Oh, the sweetness of the name of Jesus when it falls on the ear opened by the Spirit! Oh, the beauty of the person of Jesus when seen with the eye of faith through the illumination of the Holy One of Israel! As the light of the morning, when the sun rises,

"like a morning without clouds," so is our Beloved to us. The sight of the burning bush made Moses take off his shoes, but the overwhelming vision of Jesus makes us cast off all attachment to the world.
