Spurgeon's Prayer: Sanctified by Truth
Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth.
— John 17:17 (BSB)
It is the Word of God which, by the power of the Holy Spirit, gives us that inner cleansing and sanctifying.
— Charles Spurgeon
Father, we thank You for the gift of Your Word, which is truth. As we come to the close of this day, we ask that You sanctify us by Your truth. Let Your Word cleanse our hearts and minds, making us more like Christ in every way. We know that true transformation comes through the power of Your Spirit, working through the Word, and we surrender ourselves to that process tonight.
Lord, we ask for the Holy Spirit to work deeply in us, revealing areas in our lives that need change. Help us to be sensitive to the Spirit’s guidance, and give us the grace to respond with obedience and faith. We want to be conformed to the image of Christ, and we know that this is Your will for us.
As we meditate on Your Word, we seek wisdom and understanding. Open our hearts and minds to receive the truth, and let it take root in our lives. We do not want to be hearers only, but doers of the Word, applying its principles to our daily walk with You.
Father, sanctify us by Your truth, and help us to walk in holiness as You have called us to. Let the work of sanctification continue in us day by day, as we grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior. We rest tonight in the assurance that You are faithfully working in us, and we trust in Your promise to complete the good work You have begun. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
