Full Reliance on God

For he will deliver the needy who cry out and the afflicted who have no helper. — Ps 72:12 BSB

The needy cry out because that’s all they can do. Their cry is heard by God, and that’s all they need to do. Let the needy reader start crying out right away because it’s the wisest thing to do. Don’t cry in the ears of friends, because even if they help you, it’s only because the Lord enabled them. The quickest way is to cry out directly to God and let your plea reach Him. The direct path is always the best—run to the Lord and not to other people for help.

You might say, "I have no friends or helpers." All the better! You can rely completely on God in both areas—He can be your provider and your helper. Use your double need as your double plea. Even for everyday needs, you can turn to God because He cares about His children’s everyday concerns. As for your spiritual needs, which are even greater, the Lord will hear your cry, deliver you, and meet your needs.

O struggling soul, trust in your rich God. O helpless one, lean on His strength. He has never failed me, and I’m confident He will never fail you. Come to Him like a beggar, and He won’t turn you away. Come with nothing but His grace as your plea. Jesus is King—will He let you suffer without help? Did you forget that?
