Today’s Verse

Isaiah 55:10-11

For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. (KJV)

(KJV)

For just as rain and snow fall from heaven and do not return without watering the earth, making it bud and sprout, and providing seed to sow and food to eat, so My word that proceeds from My mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will accomplish what I please, and it will prosper where I send it. (BSB)

For as the rain comes down and the snow from the sky, and doesn’t return there, but waters the earth, and makes it grow and bud, and gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so is my word that goes out of my mouth: it will not return to me void, but it will accomplish that which I please, and it will prosper in the thing I sent it to do. (WEB)

The rain and snow fall from the sky and do not return, but instead water the earth and make it produce and yield crops, and provide seed for the planter and food for those who must eat. In the same way, the promise that I make does not return to me, having accomplished nothing. No, it is realized as I desire and is fulfilled as I intend.” (NET)

There is no separating sin and Hell.

Spurgeon’s Daily Help

Choice discoveries of the wondrous love and grace of Jesus are most tenderly given unto believers in the times of grief. Then it is that he lifts them up from his feet, where, like Mary, it is their delight to sit, and exalts them to the position of the favored John, pressing them to his breast and bidding

them lean on his bosom.

The love of Christ in its sweetness, its fullness, its greatness, its faithfulness, passes all human comprehension.

Heaven on earth is abounding love to Jesus. This is the first and last of true delight—to love him who is the first and the last. To love Jesus is another name for paradise.

The Spurgeon Birthday Book

May 20

We live upon Christ daily, but in times of sore trial we find him to be our munitions of war as well as our manna. Brave men not long ago baffled thousands by fighting behind a rampart of biscuit boxes and corn bags, and by God's grace we will imitate

them. Those precious gospel truths which are our heavenly bread shall also be our bulwark. Come on, you Zulus of free thought or superstition; with Christ between us and you we defy your rage!

We must dig into the mines of Scripture, to turn up those masses of gold which surface readers never discover.
