Therefore I will praise You, O LORD, among the nations; I will sing praises to Your name. — 2 Sam 22:50 BSB

David’s song is filled with praise. He saw God’s hand in every part of his life. God gave him strength; God made his enemies retreat; God delivered him from the people’s strife.

Many great military leaders write autobiographies that glorify themselves, explaining how they won certain battles, pointing to their own courage or strategy as the secret to their victories, and weaving for themselves a crown of honor. David’s autobiography is very different. He hides himself and honors God.

We only become truly great spiritually when we are willing to be nothing so that God can be everything. We are just the vessels that God fills with blessings. No matter how much good we accomplish, it is God working through us and in us.

The more we understand this truth, the closer we come to living out the highest possible Christian spirit.
