Morning

As sorrowful, but always rejoicing, as poor, but making many rich, as having nothing, and yet possessing everything. — 2 Cor 6:10 NET

We rejoice in the hope of God’s glory. Not only this, but we also rejoice in sufferings.—I am filled with encouragement; I am overflowing with joy in the midst of all our suffering.—You believe in him, and so you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy.

During a severe ordeal of suffering, their abundant joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in the wealth of their generosity.—To me – less than the least of all the saints – this grace was given, to proclaim to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christ and to enlighten everyone about God’s secret plan – a secret that has been hidden for ages in God who has created all things.

Did not God choose the poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him?—And God is able to make all grace overflow to you so that because you have enough of everything in every way at all times, you will overflow in every good work.

Evening

The Lord supports him on his sickbed; you completely heal him from his illness. — Ps 41:3 NET

Through all that they suffered, he suffered too. The messenger sent from his very presence delivered them. In his love and mercy he protected them; he lifted them up and carried them.—“The one you love is sick.”—“My grace is enough for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

So then, I will boast most gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may reside in me.—I am able to do all things through the one who strengthens me.

Therefore we do not despair, but even if our physical body is wearing away, our inner person is being renewed day by day.

“For in him we live and move about and exist.”—He gives strength to those who are tired; to the ones who lack power, he gives renewed energy. Even youths get tired and weary; even strong young men clumsily stumble. But those who wait for the Lord’s help find renewed strength.—“The everlasting God is a refuge, and underneath you are his eternal arms.”
