Taking him by the right hand, Peter helped him up, and at once the man’s feet and ankles were made strong. — Acts 3:7 BSB
A woman was asked to describe her ideal of happiness. She replied, “My ideal of happiness is helping someone up.” This sentiment echoes the words of Jesus, who said He came “not to be served, but to serve.” Most people, at first thought, would define happiness as receiving something for themselves. But the woman was right: there is more joy in helping someone up than in receiving the greatest benefits for ourselves. This perspective shows how close true happiness is to each one of us. Every day and every hour offers us opportunities to help someone up.
