Jesus wept. — John 11:35 BSB
This is the shortest verse in the Bible, but it is rich with meaning. It offers us a glimpse into the heart of Christ. It shows us that our Savior, though exalted and glorious, is deeply touched by our grief. He is the same now in heaven as He was that day when Mary wept at His feet, and He wept with her. Jesus is with us in all our sorrows and sympathizes with us. This is a profound comfort for anyone in distress.
A little child once visited a neighbor who had lost her baby and later told her mother that she had comforted the grieving woman. When asked how she had done this, the child replied, “I cried with her.” When we are in trouble, it helps to know that someone else shares our pain. It brings a sense of companionship in our loneliness and lightens our burden. But when it is Jesus who weeps with us and comes alongside us in tender companionship, it is a comfort like no other.
