God Revealed in Christ
No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is Himself God and is at the Father’s side, has made Him known. — John 1:18 BSB
We can only know God through His Son—there’s no other way to understand Him. There’s no ladder to heaven apart from Christ’s incarnation. Though Jesus came in humble form, when His friends learned who He was, they found God Himself. This is one of the most precious truths of the incarnation—that in Christ’s every word and action, we see the heart of God.
When He attended a wedding feast, we saw God affirming marriage and innocent human joy.
When He held children in His arms, we learned how God feels about children and that He wants every parent to bring their little ones to Him.
When He was moved by compassion in the face of pain and sin, we saw the depth of God’s pity.
When He welcomed outcasts and transformed their lives, we saw how God feels toward sinners and what He’s willing to do for the lost.
When He voluntarily went to the cross to die for the guilty, we saw how deeply God loves sinners.
The whole incarnation reveals the invisible God in ways we can understand. As Jesus said, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” If we want to know God, we must receive Christ. To reject Him is to close ourselves off from seeing God.
