Paths of Peace

to shine on those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace. — Luke 1:79 BSB

Jesus made the way of peace for us. Sin had destroyed the road to heaven, leaving a rough, thorny path. There would never have been a path of peace if Jesus hadn’t created it. Every path in life, except the one He made, leads to sorrow and death. But Christ built a highway that leads to eternal joy and glory.

Building this road wasn’t easy. Thousands of lives were lost in the construction of some of this world’s great roads. As we walk along the highway of redemption, enjoying the peace and comfort it brings, we sometimes forget how much it cost Jesus. We forget the toil, the tears, and the blood He shed to bridge the gaps and level the mountains for us. But now, the way is open, and it is a way of peace.

Many people think the Christian life is hard and full of suffering, but in reality, it’s a path of pleasantness and peace. The happiest people are those who follow Christ. They face troubles and sorrows like everyone else, but they have a deep, abiding peace that the world can’t give. There are paths in the valleys, among the mountains, where no storm can reach. Flowers bloom, springs flow, and birds sing. This is what Christ’s way of peace is like.
