Spurgeon’s Daily Help
When the two disciples reached Emmaus and were having their evening meal, the mysterious stranger who had captivated them on the road took the bread, broke it, revealed himself to them, and then vanished. They had asked him to stay with them because it was late, but now, even though it was much later,
their love energized them—they forgot the darkness, their weariness disappeared, and they immediately returned the sixty furlongs back to Jerusalem to share the joyful news that they had seen the risen Lord.

The sweetest songs are those that celebrate being delivered from deep distress. Have you ever kept a bird in a cage and then felt it was unfair to rob it of its freedom? Did you open the cage and let it fly? If you had heard it sing after being set free,
you would have heard the most joyful music in all the woods. When God sets a soul free from the dungeon of despair, what songs of joy pour out! Even the angels listen and are inspired to new melodies.
