And he said to the priests, “Take the ark of the covenant and go on ahead of the people.” So they carried the ark of the covenant and went ahead of them. — Josh 3:6 BSB

The ark symbolized God’s presence. God is always ready to lead us. To go into life’s experiences without Him is to fail.

Earlier, when they were preparing to cross the river, Joshua told the people, “You haven’t traveled this way before, so you must keep the ark in sight as it goes before you.”

This is true for every day of our lives. We’ve never lived today before. Even though we’ve lived thousands of other days, each new day brings us a path we’ve never walked. The only safe way is to always keep the ark in sight and follow it.

One of the marks of a true Christian is that they follow Christ. His sheep know His voice and follow Him, and He goes before them. Children should learn early on that Christ is their Leader, and every morning they can place their hand in His for guidance through the day.
