Remind God of His Promise
But You have said, ‘I will surely make you prosper, and I will make your offspring like the sand of the sea, too numerous to count.’ — Gen 32:12 BSB
This is the surest way to succeed in prayer: humbly remind God of what He has promised. Our faithful God will never break His Word or leave His promises unfulfilled. Still, He loves it when we come to Him, remind Him of His promises, and ask Him to act. This strengthens our memory, revives our faith, and renews our hope. God’s promises aren’t given for His sake but for ours. His plans are already settled, and He doesn’t need anything to bind Him to His good intentions for us. But He gives us promises to strengthen and comfort us, and He wants us to hold Him to His Word, saying, “Lord, You said…”
“I will surely do you good” is the heart of all the Lord’s promises. Focus on the word "surely." He will do us good, real good, the kind of good that satisfies us, only good. He will make us good, and that is the highest good He can do for us. He will treat us like His saints here on earth, and that is good. And soon He will bring us to be with Jesus and all His chosen ones, and that is supremely good. With this promise in our hearts, we need not fear any enemy. If the Lord will do us good, who can harm us?
