Commonest Things Blessed

So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take away sickness from among you. — Exod 23:25 BSB

What a promise this is! Serving God is a great delight in itself, but what a privilege it is to have His blessing resting on everything we do! Even the simplest things become blessed when we are consecrated to the Lord. Just as Jesus blessed the bread, and it became something special, so too, the bread we eat is blessed. Jesus turned water into wine; and for us, even the water we drink is better than the finest wine, for it carries God's blessing. God's blessing touches every aspect of a godly person's life and stays with them at all times.

Even if we only have bread and water, it is blessed bread and water. Bread and water will always be there for God to bless. “Your bread will be given to you, and your water will be sure.” When God is at our table, we don't just ask for a blessing; we have one. His blessings aren’t just at the altar but at our everyday tables. He serves well those who serve Him well. And this table blessing is not something we earn but a gift of His grace. It's a triple grace—He gives us grace to serve Him, grace to feed us, and grace to bless it all.
